New EU industrial strategy
The position of photonics in the EU's new research framework programme - Horizon Europe - seems to have improved compared to the negotiations last year. A continuation of the European technology platform for photonics is therefore conceivable.
Canceled: Laser Technology Congress AKL'20 in Aachen
The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT) in Aachen feels compelled to cancel the international conference AKL'20, planned for the beginning of May 2020, due to the spreading Corona virus. Whether and in what format the event will be made up for has not yet been decided.
LEF: Lasers in electronics production and precision engineering

3.500 new high-tech jobs in the European photonics industry
According to a survey, 3.500 new jobs – mainly in research and development – will be created in the European photonics industry over the next three years. Both large and small and medium-sized companies are looking for well-trained researchers.
Mittweida Laser Conference 2019
For the 25th time the laser conference will take place on 13th and 14th November 2019 in Mittweida. The event consists of expert lectures, poster sessions, a laboratory tour and an evening networking event. The closing date for registration is 5th November.
Photonics21-News: Position paper and Board-of-Stakeholders election.
The European Technology Platform of the photonics industry, Photonics21, published a position paper for the promotion of optical technologies during the European Union's Framework Programme Horizon Europe (2021-2027). It calls for doubling EU support for the photonics network to €200 million - in return, the European photonics industry is ready to invest up to €100 billion in research and innovation. Furthermore, the election process for the Board-of-Stakeholders will start in October 2019.
Summer school on current laser technology applications
At the end of August 2019, TU Dresden and the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS will host an international summer school on laser technology. The event offers a perfect platform to exchange ideas and to network. It addresses students and postgraduates in the fields of engineering and natural science.
LASYS 2020 postponed to June 2022
Due to the Corona crisis, the international trade fair for laser material processing LASYS has to be postponed. The new date is from 21. to 23. June 2022 in in Stuttgart. The ideal sponsor of the trade fair, the VDMA Working Group for Lasers and Laser Systems for Material Processing, will once again be represented with an exhibition stand in 2022. With the planned junior initiative "Photonics at your fingertips", young talents are to be addressed and inspired for a career in the field of photonics.

The new brochure on optical technologies in Germany for the year 2019 has been published. Here you will find information about Germany as a location, innovations from companies and research institutions as well as possible applications of optical technologies in a variety of fields.
