Quantum Leaps in Mechanical Engineering: Focus on Quantum Computing
Exclusively for VDMA members, the VDMA is organizing the first web info day in the series "Quantum Leaps in Mechanical Engineering" on the morning of May 19, 2021, with a focus on quantum computing. The organizers of the event (german language) are the Photonics Forum, the Baden-Württemberg State Association and the Competence Center Future Business.

LASER World of PHOTONICS postponed until April 2022
Due to the ongoing travel restrictions and the high proportion of international exhibitors and visitors, the trade fair in Munich must also be postponed.
Agenda Quantum Systems 2030 handed over to BMBF
On March 23, 2021, the research roadmap "Agenda Quantum Systems 2030" developed by the quantum technology community was handed over to Anja Karliczek. The paper outlines the research priorities for the next ten years.
LMN 2020: World Laser Technology Conference
On 12 and 13 October the LMN Congress will take place within the framework of the "Laserfair Shenzhen 2020" fair. The hybrid event can be visited either on site in Shenzhen or online.
Photonics21: Elections for the Board of Stakeholders
In October new elections will be held at the decision-making body of the European Technology Platform Photonics21. A total of 18 places in the 100-person board of stakeholders will be newly allocated. In the voting period from September 22 to October 6, one representative per organization represented in Photonics21 is entitled to vote.
Survey: Photonics during Horizon 2020
The European technology platform of the photonics industry Photonics21 is conducting a new market study at the end of the eighth research framework programme of the European Union (Horizon 2020; duration 2014 to 2020). Make your contribution until August 20, 2020 and participate in the survey.
Web-Seminar Lasers in Action
On July 6, 2020 the team around the material processing trade fair LASYS and LASER SYSTEMS EUROPE will already enter the third round of the webinar series "Lasers in Action". Compactly in one hour four LASYS exhibitors will present the latest developments in laser technology.
New EU industrial strategy
The position of photonics in the EU's new research framework programme - Horizon Europe - seems to have improved compared to the negotiations last year. A continuation of the European technology platform for photonics is therefore conceivable.
LASYS 2020 postponed to June 2022
Due to the Corona crisis, the international trade fair for laser material processing LASYS has to be postponed. The new date is from 21. to 23. June 2022 in in Stuttgart. The ideal sponsor of the trade fair, the VDMA Working Group for Lasers and Laser Systems for Material Processing, will once again be represented with an exhibition stand in 2022. With the planned junior initiative "Photonics at your fingertips", young talents are to be addressed and inspired for a career in the field of photonics.


The European Technology Platform of the photonics industry, Photonics21, published a position paper for the promotion of optical technologies during the European Union's Framework Programme Horizon Europe (2021-2027). It calls for doubling EU support for the photonics network to €200 million - in return, the European photonics industry is ready to invest up to €100 billion in research and innovation. Furthermore, the election process for the Board-of-Stakeholders will start in October 2019.
Photonics21, the public-private partnership of the photonics industry, published the multi-annual strategic roadmap for the Horizon Europe programme (2021-2027) "Europe's age of light! How photonics will power growth and innovation"
The new brochure on optical technologies in Germany for the year 2019 has been published. Here you will find information about Germany as a location, innovations from companies and research institutions as well as possible applications of optical technologies in a variety of fields.
